PARMA -- George R. South, 73, of Parma, died Wednesday, April 5, 1995, in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Oct. 1, 1921, in Light, Ark., son of Floyd and Ruth Virginia Ponder South. He and Geneva W. Newell were married Oct. 10, 1948. She died Aug. 21, 1994.
South retired as a history teacher at Parma Schools. He had lived here since 1947, and was a member of Lotta Union General Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include two sons, Randall South of Cape Girardeau, Gary South of Taylor, Mich.; three brothers, Charles Jacks of Dexter, Bill South of Walnut Ridge, Ark., Leonard South of Cahokia, Ill.; eight sisters, Helen Jarvis of Parma, Lois Stamey of Margation, N.C., Joyce Phelps of Swartz Creek, Mich.; Ressie Croom and Helen "Bonnie" Reeling of Salem, Ark., Billie Jacks, Hazel Smith and Lois Herrod of Paragould, Ark., and two grandchildren.
Friends may call at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Parma from 5-8 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lotta Union Church, with the Revs. Billy Hamlett and Terry Williams officiating. Burial will be in Stanfield Cemetery near Clarkton.
