George Popp

George Hammett Popp, 47, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at his home.

He was born Oct. 2, 1956, in Cape Girardeau, son of John W. and Irene E. Henderson Popp.

George was a graduate of Central High School and started in the family business in 1972. He was with Georgell Investments until 2002 and then started Union Construction Co. Due to failing health, he was confined to a wheelchair the past three years. He was a member of Cape First Church.

Survivors include his mother of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Cathi (Carl) Cleland of Covington, La.; a brother, John (Barbara) Popp Jr. of Jackson; four nephews, Steven (Terri) Popp of Jackson, David (Linda) Popp of Honolulu, Hawaii, Chris (DeeDee) Smith and Kevin (Jenny) Smith, all of Baton Rouge; a niece, Betsy (Norman) Schultz of Midland, Ga.; seven great-nieces; and two great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Oct. 24, 1973, and by a sister, Betsy Popp.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Charles Lance and Sam Ramdial officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
