TAMMS, Ill. -- George E. Minyard, 85, of Tamms died Wednesday Feb. 16, 2005, at his home.
He was born Nov. 7, 1919, in Alabama, son of William and Della Smith Minyard.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and a retired welder with the Inland Steel Companies in Indiana.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Bryant Minyard of Tamms; a daughter, Sonia Chandler of Ullin, Ill.; a son Bobby Minyard of Austin, Texas; two stepsons, George Kirk of Bayville, N.J. and Wayne Kirk, of Hammond, Ind.; a daughter, Charlotte of Florida; three stepdaughters, Dorothy Ann Kliest of Indianapolis, Janice DeJesus and Carol Howard, both of Hammond, Ind.; a brother, William Minyard of Graysville, Ala.; two grandchildren; 14 stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Jones Funeral Home of Tamms. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Scott Kelly officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Thebes, Ill., with full military honors by the Pulaski County VFW Post 8891 of Mounds.
