GEORGE L. ELDER

PERRYVILLE -- George L. Elder, 67, of Perryville died Monday, March 25, 1996, at St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 8, 1928, at Perryville, son of Thomas J. and Mary Evelyn Tucker Elder. He and Doris M. Huber were married Oct. 18, 1952, at Perryville.

He had owned and operated Elders Barbershop with two of his brothers. He was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville, a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus William J. Barnwell Council 1263 and American Legion Post 133. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Denise K. Layton of Perryville; two sons, George E. and Kevin M. Elder, both of Perryville; three brothers, Thomas G. "Tiny" Elder of Ste. Genevieve, Patrick Elder of St. Mary, and Leroy "Willie" Elder of Perryville; five sisters, Ruth Schott of Ste. Genevieve, Rosie Prost of Perryville, Rita Aunspach of St. Louis, Doris Graff of Lewisburg, Tenn., and Evelyn Unterreiner of Perryville; and six grandchildren.

Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. today and from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at the Young and Sons Funeral Chapel in Perryville.

A Catholic and Knights of Columbus wake will be held at 7 p.m. today and an American Legion wake will be held at 7:15 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral Mass will celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Perryville. The Rev. Kevin Fausz will officiate, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery.
