George J. Basler, 82, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Festus, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 1996, at his home.
He was born Jan. 16, 1914, in Ste. Genevieve County, the son of George Philip and Regina J. Guethle Basler. He was married to Velma Mott.
Basler was a retired glassworker, a former member of the Missouri State National Guard and a member of Linwood Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Betty Lou Brunkhorst of Cape Girardeau and Jackie Michael of Festus; one son, George Franklin Basler of St. Louis County; two sisters, Johanna Basler of Festus and Anna R. Viox of Ste. Genevieve; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and seven brothers.
Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Friday at the Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus and after 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Festus-Crystal City.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Terry Michael officiating. Burial will be on Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City.
