CHAFFEE - George F. Stone, 72, of Chaffee, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 1991 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Stone was born Dec. 28, 1918 in Chaffee, son of the late George Stone. His mother, Bertie Lee Stone of Chaffee, survives.
Stone married Thelma L. Baker on April 7, 1940. She survives at the home.
He worked as a locomotive fireman for Cotton Belt Railroad Co., retiring in December 1979. He served in the Army during World War II and was awarded a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Chaffee; Chaffee Masonic Lodge No. 615; Chaffee Veterans of Foreign Wars post No. 3127; the Cape Girardeau Disabled American Veterans No. 16; the UTUE; and the BLFE, for which he served as local chairman for many years.
Surviving also are a son, Jim Stone of Farmington; daughters Mary Alice Morman of Rochester, Minn., Ruth Ann Schulte of Cape Girardeau, and Bertie Robert of Benton; a brother, James W. Stone of Phoenix, Ariz.; and seven grandchildren. One sister preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Maurice Eagan will officiate.
Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery in Chaffee.
