SHELL KNOB, Mo. -- George William Bond, 82, of Shell Knob, Mo., passed away Friday, Oct., 19 2001, in South Barry County Hospital in Cassville.

He was born May 15, 1919 in Chicago, the son of Louis L. and Laura Lucas Bond.

On Nov. 16, 1942, in Washington D.C., he was married to Gladys I. Slinkard, who survives.

George is also survived by three sons, Terrance Bond, Bolivar Mo., David Bond, Shell Knob,Mo., and Ronald Bond, Fordland, Mo.; one sister, Viola Mileham, St. Charles, Mo.; seven grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Gerald William Bond, and two brothers, Roy and Louis Bond.

George grew up and went to school in Mt. Carmel, Ill., until his family moved to Allenville, Mo. He attended high school in Delta, Mo. George left school and went to work in the CCC Camps before enlisting in the U.S. Army on Oct. 15, 1940. He served in the army during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945.

George went to work in Cape Girardeau as a police officer for two years before joining the United States Air Force. He retired from the Air Force Oct. 1, 1963 and worked at Boeing Aircraft and then at Fisher Body (General Motors) for nine years in St. Louis.

In 1974, he and his family moved to Shell Knob to make their home.

George enjoyed many hobbies, including woodworking, flying, fishing, hunting and bowling. He was a member of the Viola Baptist Church in Viola, Mo. George was a devoted husband and loving father who loved God and people.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22 at the Williamson Funeral Home in Shell Knob.

Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, in Viola Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lawrence Shuey officiating. Burial will be in Viola Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Viola Baptist Church, St. Jude's Children Hospital or the donor's choice.
