BUNCOMBE, Ill. -- George O. Barringer, 85, of Buncombe died Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, at the City Care Center in Cobden.
He was born Oct. 22, 1912, at Buncombe, son of Wesley and Mary Ellis Jenkins Barringer. He and Lorene Thornton were married on Feb. 17, 1936, at Buncombe.
He was a retired farmer and a correctional officer at Menard Correctional Center at Chester.
He was a member and deacon at the New Hope Baptist Church for more than 50 years.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Patsie Griffith of Buncombe, Anna Lee Durbin of Anna and Mary Smith of Murphysboro; two sisters, Juanita Schwarm of St. Elmo and Mary Russell of Anna; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers.
Friends may call at the Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna after 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Andy Gillespie will officiate, with burial in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Johnson County.
