Funeral service for Genofeva S. Deneke of Cape Girardeau will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel. The Rev. David Dissen will officiate, with burial in Memorial Park.
Friends may call at the chapel Friday from 9 a.m. until service time.
Deneke, 95, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1997, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
She was born Oct. 10, 1902, at New Wells, daughter of John and Marie Erlbacher Schumacher. She and Clarence H. Deneke were married Aug. 3, 1924, in Red Bud, Ill. He died June 6, 1968.
Deneke was a graduate of Central High School and Cape Girardeau Business School. She went to work for the local telephone company in 1920 which later became Southwestern Bell. She was secretary to the district plant manager, retiring in 1967.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and charter member of its Guild, member of Telephone Pioneers, Southeast Missouri Hospital Auxiliary, St. Francis Medical Center Auxiliary, and Business and Professional Women's Club. She was named Woman of the Year by the Cape Girardeau Business and Professional Women's Club in 1968.
Survivors include a niece, Betty Summers of Sikeston, and a nephew, Robert Deneke of Jackson.
She was preceded in death by a sister.
