Genevieve Marie Diebold Keusenkothen, 95, of Kelso died after a brief illness fortified by the Sacraments, Sunday, January 10. 1999, at Alexian Brothers Hospital, in St. Louis.
She was born December 19, 1903, in Kelso, daughter of Joseph F. Diebold, founder of Diebold Orchards, and Josephine Ressel Diebold. She is survived by her sister, Sister M. Jacinta (Virginia), OSF, of Elk Grove Village, Ill. Her brother, Herman died in 1984. She married John L. Keusenkothen, attorney on June 24, 1929. He died on July 14, 1977.
She was a graduate of St. Vincents Academy for Young Ladies of Cape Girardeau in 1921. She was employed in St. Louis at Hart, Schaftner and Marx for several years after her graduation. She also was clerk at the Kelso Merchantile store and bookkeeper for the Kelso Milling Company, owned by her father, prior to her marriage.
She was a homemaker, was a member of St. Augustine Parish, Kelso, but resided in St. Louis at Alexian Brothers Sherbrook Village since March, 1996. She was an active member of the St. Anns Sodality, the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women, was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts, a member of the St. Augustine Parish Choir and the first woman to be a Eucharistic Minister in the parish.
She is survived by one daughter, Sr. Genevieve Keusenkothen, DC (Marianne) of St. Louis, and eight sons: John of Jackson; Joseph, of St. Louis; Brother Thomas, CFA (Hubert) of Chicago; Bernard of St. Louis; Eugene of Dexter; Robert, Richard and Frederick of St. Louis; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son Paul on July 4, 1935, and her daughter, Sr. Marie Bernadette (Mary Genevieve), SSND, on December 7, 1977.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm at St. Augustine Church in Kelso on Wednesday, January 13. Rosary will be at 7 pm. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Augustines on Thursday, January 14 at 10 am. Rev. Oliver Clavin will officiate. Burial will follow the liturgy at the St. Augustine Parish cemetery in Kelso.
