Geneva Ruth Mayfield, 92, of Jackson passed away Monday, April 25, 2016, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born Aug. 29, 1923, in Oriole to William Daniel and Maude Della Pierce Dunn. She and Milford L. "Doc" Mayfield were married March 15, 1942, in Benton, Missouri. They had been married 40 years when Doc passed away June 17, 1982...

Geneva Ruth Mayfield, 92, of Jackson passed away Monday, April 25, 2016, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Aug. 29, 1923, in Oriole to William Daniel and Maude Della Pierce Dunn. She and Milford L. "Doc" Mayfield were married March 15, 1942, in Benton, Missouri. They had been married 40 years when Doc passed away June 17, 1982.

Geneva attended school in Oriole and at College High in Cape Girardeau. Baptized in Indian Creek, Geneva was a former longtime member of Iona Baptist Church and a current member of First Baptist Church in Jackson.

In 1955, Geneva and Doc established Doc's Place, a mom-and-pop filling station and diner on U.S. 61 in Fruitland. They owned and operated the business until Doc's passing in 1982. Thereafter, Geneva worked at Fruitland Dressed Meat in Fruitland, The Meat Shop in Cape Girardeau and Wal-Mart in Jackson, retiring in 2006.

Loving survivors include three children, Sharon (Dennis) Turner of Sikeston, Missouri, Darrell Mayfield of Jackson and Keith Mayfield of Cape Girardeau; eight grandchildren, Ami Rau of Kansas City, Missouri, Matthew (Charity) VanAmburg of Farmington, Missouri, Abbie (Matthew) Edwards of Sikeston, Taylor Mayfield of Columbia, Missouri, Bailey Mayfield, Tanner Mayfield, Leslie (Jeff) Hager and Andrea Mayfield, all of Jackson; and eight great-grandchildren, Kimberly, Gabe and Alivia Rau, Luke and Hayden VanAmburg and Vance, Jillian and Pierce Edwards.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, six sisters and two brothers.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dwayne Coleman officiating. Burial will be at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Iona Cemetery or the Lutheran Home.
