BENTON — Geneva K. Dirnberger, 97, of Benton passed away Sunday, Jan. 14, 2024, at Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Jan. 13, 1927, in Commerce to Victor and Pauline Welter Scherer. She and Cornelius Dirnberger were married Sept. 25, 1948, at St. Denis Church in Benton. He preceded her Sept. 14, 2007.
She served in the Morley Ladies Auxiliary V.F.W. 5368, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary 369 and the Ladies Sodality for St. Denis.
She was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church.
Survivors include a sister, Wilma Martin of Advance; sister-in-law, Laverne Wilhelm of Scott City; her children, Donald (Sheri) Dirnberger of Kelso, Doris (Russell) Breymeyer of Benton and Paul (Suzi) Dirnberger of Benton; grandchildren, Nicole (Edward) Landewee, Travis (Lori) Dirnberger, Rhonda (David) Ratledge, Shana (Jamey) Kight, Jordan (Robyn Oller) Dirnberger, Jacob (Hannah) Dirnberger, Jared (Kara) Dirnberger, Landon Dirnberger, Dustin (Amy) Dirnberger; great-grandchildren, Nick (Kassidy), Lizzie Kight, Laine, Rylan, Hadley, Bridger, Brody Dirnberger, Nathan, Logan, Colton and Cierra Landewee, Brailey Ratledge and Lauren (Stephen) Tatum; great-great-grandchild, Lilly Tatum; and stepgrandchildren, Rusty (Lynn) Toby, Nicole (Joe) Smolkovich, Jacob Price, Kaylyn Michael, Lauren Fritz, Kennedy and Natalie Richmond.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Ralph Dirnberger; sister, Mary Ann Scheffer; brothers, Jerome, Ralph, Jordan, and Gregory Scherer; half sister, Bertha Goetz; great-granddaughter, Abbey Elizabeth Evans; great-stepgranddaughter, Samantha Ratledge; stepgrandson, Buddy Pombert; and sisters-in-law, Bernice Jansen and Leoma Dirnberger.
Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at St. Denis Gymnasium in Benton.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at St. Denis Church in Benton, with the Rev. Daniel Belken officiating. Burial will follow at St. Denis Church Cemetery in Benton.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be given to St. Denis Parish or St. Denis School.
