JACKSON -- Gene Sides, 71, of Jackson died Sunday, March 29, 1992, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Oct. 3, 1920, at Fruitland, the son of Price S. and Nancy Hargraves Sides. On April 8, 1944, he married Rosalee Winkler, who survives of the home.
He formerly worked for the Jaco Logging Co. of Jackson, and also owned and operated the West Side Shell, Side's Phillips 66, and Side's Gulf Station in Jackson, before his retirement in 1974. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the U.S. Army.
He also was a member of the Jackson American Legion, the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post #3838 in Cape Girardeau, the Disable American Veterans, Travelers Protective Association and the United Ostomy Association.
Other survivors include three sons, Harold Sides of Millersville and David and Sam Sides, both of Jackson; a daughter, Barbara Scheper of Jackson; eight sisters, Agnes Miles and Ada Snyder, both of Lakewood, Calif., Norma Bowers and Rosemary Starns, both of Burfordville, Dorothy Link of University City, Betty Marlett of Perryville, Virginia Riehn of Ashland, and Nancy Prince of Jackson; a brother, Lloyd Sides of Jackson; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson and two brothers.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, where an honor guard service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Truman Huffman will officiate, and burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
