Gene W. Phillips, 88, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016, at Ratliff Care Center.

He was born Sept. 28, 1927, in Cape Girardeau to Walter and Virginia Heise Phillips. He and Clara Belle Hitt Phillips were married June 4, 1960, in Cape Girardeau.

He was a member of Hanover Lutheran Church. He served faithfully in the Army National Guard. He was a member of the Egypt Mills Tractor Club and restored many tractors over the years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved to help people.

Gene retired from Missouri Utilities/Union Electric after working there over 30 years and after being employed there more than 50 years ago.

Survivors include his wife, Clara Belle Phillips of Cape Girardeau; a son, Alan (Julie) Phillips of Jackson, Tennessee; a brother, Harold Phillips of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Viola Bock of Advance, Missouri; and a grandchild, Hunter (Emily) Phillips of Franklin, Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ralph Phillips; and a sister, Anna Lee Eggimann.

Friends may call from noon to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
