Gene Mackey, 62, of Jackson passed away Monday, Dec. 19, 2005, at his home.
He was born April 30, 1943, in Rockbridge, Mo., son of the late Owen B. and Leona Martin Mackey. He and Jill Piepenbrok were married April 28, 1974, in Jackson. She survives.
Gene attended Mountain Grove High School in Mountain Grove, Mo. On June 30, 1966, he was inducted into the United States Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged March 14, 1972, as a sergeant.
For several years he worked in sales, and as an announcer in the radio business. He owned the former Morning Coffee Service in Jackson, and worked in real estate, having owned Dutch Realty in Jackson for a number of years, retiring in 1997.
He was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson since 1981.
Loving survivors include his wife, Jill; two sons, Daniel L. Mackey and Chris Mackey of Jackson; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Sharon Mackey of Moberly, Mo.; a sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Jack Collins of Brea, Calif.; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jack and Beverly Piepenbrok of Jackson; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call today from 4 to 8 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with Dr. John Rice officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery with graveside military honors.
