PORTAGEVILLE -- Gene E. French, 59, of Portageville died Tuesday, July 21, 1998, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Dec. 29, 1938, at Point Pleasant, son of Amos Edward and Gladys House French. He and Arzine Upson were married March 4, 1960.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Eddie French of Portageville; his mother of Portageville; a brother, Mike French of Portageville; three sisters, Juanita Henley of Cape Girardeau, Sharon Paylor of Memphis, Tenn., Karen Baxter of Portageville; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother.

Friends may call at DeLisle Funeral Home after 5 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ed Rhodes officiating. Burial will be in Portageville Cemetery.
