WHITEWATER -- Gene A. Jones, 62, of Carlyle, Ill., died suddenly Sunday, Dec. 6, 1992, at his home.
He was born Nov. 4, 1930, in St. Louis, son of Howard H. and Edith Herzinger Jones. He and Peggy J. Smith were married June 2, 1950, at Jackson.
Jones taught school at Whitewater, and then worked for Natural Gas Pipeline. He had lived in Carlyle since 1975, and was plant foreman at the Hoffman facility until retiring.
He was a member of American Legion Post 158 in Jackson, Masonic Lodge 825 in Arthur, Ill.; member and trustee of First Baptist Church in Carlyle. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Geoffrey Jones of Carlyle, Randol Jones of St. Charles, Ill.; a brother, James Jones of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Martha Scherrer of Elsberry; his stepmother, Virginia Jones of Whitewater; a half sister, Sharon Blumberg of Whitewater, and a granddaughter.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Zieren-Day Funeral Home in Carlyle. The Revs. Nathan Argent and Harold Roberts will officiate. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Masonic service will be at 7:30.
