Gaylen Krause

L. Gaylen Krause, 69, of Broken Arrow, Okla., formerly of Villa Park, Ill., died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, in Oklahoma.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, Ill.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Elmhurst, Ill.

Mr. Gaylen is survived by his former wife, Jean Baierbach Krause Hinkle of Dongola, Ill.; a daughter, Susan (Tim) McDowell of Jackson; two sons, Scott (Carrie) and Jerry of Broken Arrow; five grandchildren, Brett, Blake, and Taylor, and Alynna and Hadyn; three brothers, Lynn (Kay) of Joliet, Ill., Gary (Sue) of Lombard, and Gilbert (Shirley) of Plano, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Loren Dee.

Mr. Gaylen was born in Sterling, Colo., on June 2, 1940, to Gerald A. and Philomene Stibley Krause. He grew up in Villa Park and was a 1958 graduate of York Community High School. He was married New Year's Eve 1961 to Jean Baierbach of Elmhurst.

He attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and graduated in 1962 with a bachelor of science degree in business and started his lifelong career with The Associates in Evansville, Ind.

He loved playing cards and board games with family. Mr. Gaylen enjoyed fishing, golfing and endless games of gin with his brothers and his best friend, Dr. William Lowry of Arlington, Texas. He was an avid Cubs fan to the day he died.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Gaylen's honor may be made to the American Heart Association or the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society.
