ADVANCE, Mo. -- Gavada Jane Corbin Woodfin, 92, of Advance passed away Sept. 25, 2016, at the Advance Assisted Living Center in Advance. She was born Aug. 13, 1924, in Sturdivant, Missouri, the daughter of Clyde and Effie Pearl Watkins Corbin. Gavada had been a school teacher at Zalma R5 School District from 1941 until her retirement in 1980. ...

ADVANCE, Mo. -- Gavada Jane Corbin Woodfin, 92, of Advance passed away Sept. 25, 2016, at the Advance Assisted Living Center in Advance. She was born Aug. 13, 1924, in Sturdivant, Missouri, the daughter of Clyde and Effie Pearl Watkins Corbin.

Gavada had been a school teacher at Zalma R5 School District from 1941 until her retirement in 1980. She had been a member of Bethel General Baptist Church since 1962. Gavada was also a member of Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Missouri Delta Airstream Club since 1992.

Gavada and Ivan "Blue" Woodfin were united in marriage Jan. 16, 1947, at Piggott, Arkansas, and he survives of the home.

Survivors include: her husband, Ivan "Blue" Woodfin; two sons, Stan (Andi) Woodfin of Oran, Missouri, and Todd (Cheryl) Woodfin of Advance; a daughter, Beverly Leslie of Clarksville, Indiana; three sisters, Betty Cato of Cape Girardeau, Willodean Lloyd of Advance and Joan Cole of Kearney, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Jonathan Leslie, Amy Woodfin Holman, Jill Leslie Ausmus, Ashley Woodfin VanGorkam, Halle Woodfin, Grant Woodfin and Hope Woodfin; and seven great-grandchildren, Alexis Holman, Kaleb Holman, Harrison Leslie, Reece Ausmus, Karuna Leslie, Janie Ausmus and Rykker VanGorkam.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Paul Corbin, Claude Corbin, Hubert Corbin and Harold Dee Corbin.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance.

A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the chapel, with the Revs. Ray Placher and Fed Ritter officiating. Burial will follow at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
