Gary Dean Schweer, 80, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2020, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

He was born May 16, 1939, in Jackson to Otto and Mollie McBryde Schweer. Gary and Betty Franck were married March 5, 1960, at Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. She preceded him in death May 1, 2006.

He was a 1957 graduate of Jackson High School, where he played baseball, basketball and football.

He served in the Missouri National Guard.

He retired from Wetterau after 30-plus years.

Gary loved to quail hunt in his younger years, ride his four-wheeler and plant a garden every year. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Egypt Mills and Cape Girardeau Elks Lodge No. 639.

Survivors include his daughter, Julie (Jack) Conklin of Cape Girardeau; sons, Lanny (Diane) Schweer of Jackson and Danny (Lynn) Schweer of Cape Girardeau; sisters, Fern Schlimme of Cape Girardeau and Betty Baxter of Florida; grandchildren, Jackie Conklin III, Dylan Schweer, Jacob Conklin, Tori Schweer, Lacey (Sam) Kluesner and Gary Schweer; and great-grandchildren, Lilly Conklin, Sawyer Schweer, Zoie Conklin, Wyatt Schweer, Vivian Kluesner, Esme Kluesner, Presley Sumner and Hayden Sumner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sisters, Bernice Bogenpohl, Olga Reitzel and Helen M. Schweer; and brother, George Schweer.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Egypt Mills, with the Rev. Barry Pfanstiel officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Trinity Lutheran Church of Egypt Mills.
