ALTON, Ill. -- Gary S. Porter, 38, of Alton, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1992, at Alton Memorial Hospital.
A captain and a paramedic in the Alton Fire Department, he and another firefighter were killed while fighting a fire early Saturday morning. He had been employed with the Alton Fire Department for 15 years.
He was born in Alton on April 19, 1954, the son of the late Daniel L. Porter and Ethelyn Wooldridge Porter Gorham of Cape Girardeau, who survives.
Surviving besides his mother, are his wife, Nannette; a daughter, Theresa Porter; and a son, Steven Porter, all of the home; a stepfather, Gary Gorham of Cape Girardeau; and three sisters, Christie Porter of Bethalto, Ill., Paula Huggins and Amy Gorham, both of Cape Girardeau.
One brother preceded him in death.
Friends may call from 3-9 p.m. Monday at Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Alton.
Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Darryl Huggins officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
