Gary Ackman

Gary W. "Jake" Ackman, 55, of Cape Girardeau passed away Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, at Heartland Care Rehab Center.

He was born June 26, 1949, in Cape Girardeau, son of August E. and Louise Hesse Ackman.

Jake graduated from Central High School in 1968. He worked for the former Potashnick Construction Co. several years, hauling heavy equipment across the United States.

He was a member of Teamsters Local 574 of Cape Girardeau, Eagles Aerie No. 3775, and was of the Baptist belief.

Loving survivors include five sisters, Sharon Chapman and husband Norman of Cape Girardeau, Velma Shephard and husband Bob of Cape Girardeau, Mildred Hitt of Uniontown, Mo., Burna Walker of Fruitland, Zeta Simms of Chaffee, Mo.; 11 nieces and nephews; 15 great-nieces and nephews; and five great-great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau from 4 to 8 p.m. today. An Eagles service will be held at 7.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Cy Smith officiating. Interment will be in New Bethel Cemetery near Pocahontas.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Southeast Hospice or Heartland Care Rehab Center.
