SIKESTON -- F.X. Schumacher, 78, of Sikeston, died Thursday, July 8, 1993, in the emergency room at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

He was born April 2, 1915, at Marston, son of F.X. and Ruth Cleveland Hodges Schumacher Sr. He and Alma Jean Morgan were married May 20, 1936, at Caruthersville.

Schumacher was an insurance agent and broker, and was the first agent in Southeast Missouri to become a chartered life underwriter. He was founder of Schumacher Financial Services Inc. here.

He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, charter and honorary life member of KC Council 3151, member and past president of Missouri Life Underwriters Association.

Schumacher had coached Little League baseball, and had been a minor league baseball player with several teams. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, F.X. Schumacher III and Mark Schumacher of Sikeston; four daughters, Barbara Webb and Teresa Arndt of Sikeston, Mary Johnston of Warrenton, Va., Katherine Voelker of Jefferson City; a sister, Laurie Felknor of Emerson, N.J.; 25 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, sister and two grandchildren.

Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Church. Msgr. William Stanton and the Rev. Robert Schumacher will officiate, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Home after 5 p.m. today. A prayer service will be held at 7.
