Frieda Hope Rowland, 85, of Benbrook, Texas, died Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at The Vintage Memorial Home in Denton, Texas, where she was loved and cared for during her final days.
She was born June 12, 1926, in Reynolds County, Mo., daughter of Effie Belle and Thomas William Evans. She was the youngest of six siblings. On Dec. 22, 1944, she married Frank William Rowland, who preceded her in death July 15, 1995.
Frieda graduated from Centerville High School in 1944. In the 1950s she and her husband were employed at Brown Shoe Co. and later established a dry goods store in Des Arc, Mo., where they resided. After moving to Esther, Mo., in the early 1960s she was employed as a CNA and a med tech at Farmington's Thomas Dell Memorial Home, and Desloge Healthcare Center. Later she was employed at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, retiring in 1997.
She volunteered for many activities as well as teaching Sunday school at Esther-Flat River Church of the Nazarene for several years, where her immediate family became beloved members.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Terry Jones of Fresno, Calif.; a son, Lin Rowland and partner John of Benbrook; three grandchildren, Shon Rowland of Winter Park, Fla., Randy and Christy Rowland of Sheridan, Wyo.; and four great-grandchildren, Anyssa, Marissa, Curtis and Roxie of Sheridan.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Roxie Ann Rowland; and her eldest son, Randall William Rowland.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home Caldwell Chapel in Park Hills, Mo.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery in Des Arc.
