Frieda E.R. Lorenz, 96, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at Fountainbleau Lodge.

She was born Sept. 22, 1914, in New Wells, to Otto F. and Josephine Frenger Bodenschatz. She and Elmer A. Lorenz were married Sept. 2, 1934, at New Wells. He preceded her in death in May 1990.

Lorenz was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, LWML, Trinity Lutheran Senior Ladies Aid, was a greeter at church and was chairwoman of the Quilting Group at Trinity. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells. She also was a member of River Heritage Quilters Guild and served on the community projects committee that helped make quilts for those in need. She volunteered in the Lutheran Home sewing room many years. She was an avid bowler for 40 years until age 88 in the Cape Lanettes League.

She worked at Cape Girardeau public schools and International Shoe.

Survivors include two daughters, Thelma Lemonds and husband J.W. of Cape Girardeau, Helen Steffens and husband Dale of Jackson; four grandchildren, Lynne Taylor and husband Gerald, Donna Etzold and husband, Kevin, all of Cape Girardeau, Michael Tanner and wife Christina, and Teresa Masterson, all of Jackson; three great-grandchildren, Kaydee Chandler and husband Greg of Cape Girardeau, Diana Etzold of Columbia, Mo., Mallorie Masterson of Jackson; a great-stepgrandchild, Kaitlyn Givens of Jackson; a great-great-grandchild, Ethan Chandler of Cape Girardeau; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Joyce Lorenz; and two brothers, Martin and Raymond Bodenschatz.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Douglas Breite officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to Hanover Lutheran Church Building Fund, Trinity Lutheran Church or to Living Hope.
