CHARLESTON -- Funeral service for Freeman Edward Pemberton of Charleston will be held at 11 a.m. today at First Assembly of God Church. The Rev. Gerald Penn will officiate, with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.
McMikle Funeral Home at Charleston is in charge of arrangements.
Pemberton, 79, died Sunday, April 20, 1997, at Charleston Manor.
He was born Aug. 19, 1917, in Biggers, Ark., son of Wylie and Marble Paynes Pemberton. He and Marie Smotherman were married Sept. 24, 1937.
Pemberton had lived in Mississippi County since 1942. He worked at E.C. Robinson Lumber Co. many years, and retired from Brown Shoe Co. in 1979. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church, and served as a deacon and custodian.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Paul Pemberton of Augusta, Ga.; four daughters, Betty Lambert of Columbia, Ill., Phyllis Hastings of Dexter, Sylvia Kettler of High Ridge, Sandra Triplett of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Clifford Pemberton of San Antonio, Texas; a sister, Ruby Butler of Diehlstadt; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister.
