Former Cape Girardeau police officer Frederick L. Schneider Sr., 86, 308 N. Middle, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, at the Lutheran Home.
He was born Aug. 19, 1910, in Cape Girardeau, son of Dr. John J. and Lydia S. Rueseler Schneider. He and Viola E. Esicar were married Nov. 26, 1949, in Cape Girardeau. She died June 10, 1989.
Schneider was a graduate of Central High School, graduate of the 42nd session of the FBI National Academy in 1949, and a graduate of the Missouri Highway Patrol Academy.
He was a member of the Cape Girardeau Police Department 38 years, retiring as captain in 1975. He also served in the Missouri National Guard.
Schneider was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, American Radio Relay League, International Mission Radio Association, and life member of National Rifle Association.
Survivors include two sons, John Schneider and Frederick Schneider Jr. of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Ellen Seyer of Cape Girardeau; and five granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by three brothers.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel from 4-8 p.m. today. Parish prayers will be at 7.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Cathedral, with the Rev. Richard Rolwing officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
