Frederick Joseph Franey, 71, of Cape Girardeau passed away Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at his home.
He was born Jan. 5, 1942, in Washington Park, Ill., to John Joseph and Hazel Budina Franey. He and Arlene E. Gross were married May 24, 1969, in Carlisle, Ill.
Fred served honorably in the U.S. Army from Feb. 9, 1962, to Oct. 9, 1967.
At the age of 8, Fred developed an interest in carpentry. He became an accomplished finish carpenter and was best known for his trim work. He worked several years with Ted Snyder Construction in Cape Girardeau. He worked at Lowes in Cape Girardeau the past 16 years.
He was a member of Christ Church of the Heartland and a former member of Bethel Assembly of God, both in Cape Girardeau. He also volunteered at Healing Rooms of the Heartland in Cape Girardeau.
Loving survivors include his wife of 44 years, Arlene of Cape Girardeau; two children and their spouses, Beverly and Andrew Johnson and children Michael and Evelyn of Gordonville, Michael and Chassity Franey and children Kierstyn and Kameron of Lakeland, Fla.; two siblings, Douglas (Carolyn) Franey of Trenton, Ill., and sons James and Jeffery, Kathleen Haddock of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and daughters Michelle and Marla.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service Friday at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
The funeral will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Zachery Strong and Phil Roop officiating. A committal service with military honors will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
