Freda L. Shafer

VILLA RIDGE, Ill. -- Freda L. Shafer, 89, of Marion, Ill., formerly of Olmsted, Ill., died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, at the Heartland Hospital in Marion.

She was born Feb. 14, 1914, at Olmsted, daughter of William and Laura Duerckheimer Sauerbrunn.

Shafer was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Olmsted and the Ladies Aide.

Survivors include a daughter, Wanda Troester of Marion; a son, Clyde Shafer of Metropolis, Ill.; a sister, Wilma Bailey of Galesburg, Ill.; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Shafer, and four brothers.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge and 11 a.m. until the funeral Wednesday. Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Carl Miller and the Rev. Bill Schmidt will officiate with burial in Concord Cemetery west of Olmsted.
