CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Funeral mass for Fred William Blattel, Cape Girardeau Route 2, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Vincent's Church. The Rev. Art Basler will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park, with graveside rites by VFW Post 3838.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 4-8:30 p.m. Friday. Parish prayers will be at 7:30.

Blattel, 74 years old, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 1991, at his home.

He was born Dec. 4, 1916, at Scott City, son of Fred Jacob and Maye E. Collie Blattel. He and the former Jessie Mae Campbell were married Nov. 22, 1951, in Cape.

Blattel owned and operated Blattel's Shell Service here 23 years, retiring in 1969. He worked at Procter & Gamble from 1970 until retiring in 1981. He was a member of St. Vincent's Church and VFW Post 3838. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jack Blattel of Bonneau, S.C., George Blattel of Key West, Fla.; three daughters, Mary Wulff of Hallsville, Martha Glastetter of Benton, Margaret Gilbert of Belgium; three brothers, Elmer Blattel of Scott City, James and Robert Blattel of Cape; a sister, Doris Holshouser of Cape, and eight grandchildren.
