LEOPOLD, Mo. -- Funeral for Fred William Trankle of Leopold will be held at 10 a.m. today at St. John's Catholic Church. The Rev. Bill Huggins will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
Hutchings Funeral Chapel at Marble Hill, Mo., is in charge of arrangements.
Trankle, 81, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, at his home.
He was born Nov. 21, 1918, at Leopold, son of August and Wilhelmina Radin Trankle. He and Agnes Alida Elfrink were married Feb. 23, 1952.
Trankle was a farmer, and member of St. John's Church. He was a lifelong resident of Leopold.
He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II at Iwo Jima, Volcano Island, and the Occupation of Japan.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Robert Trankle of Chaffee, Mo., David and Michael Trankle of Leopold; six daughters, Wilma Saputo and Mary VanderMierden of Leopold, Rose Trankle and Therese Kiger of St. Louis, Norma Trankle of Fort Lewis, Wash., Christine Berger of Carbondale, Ill.; a sister, Mary Landewee of Leopold; 16 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son.
