MURPHYSBORO, Ill. -- Fred S. Layne, 85, of Murphysboro, died Sunday, July 30, 1995, at St. Joseph Hospital.
He was born Sept. 22, 1909, in Murphysboro, son of Samuel and Hattie Christian Layne. He and Jennie P. Baker were married Aug. 27, 1930, in Pinckneyville. She died June 7, 1977.
Layne was a barber in the area more than 50 years. He was a member of Elm Street Baptist Church, Barber's Union, and former member of Jackson County Country Club and the Bowling League.
Survivors include four daughters, Kay Lirely, Karen Emerson, Pam Baskin and Debi Robinson of Murphysboro; two sons, Richard Layne of Murphysboro, Fred Layne of Cape Girardeau; a brother, George Layne of Murphysboro; a sister, Ruby Hale of Ziegler; 29 grandchildren, and 45 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister and brother.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Elm Street Church, with the Rev. Charles Allen officiating. Burial will be in Murdale Gardens of Memory.
Friends may call at Pettett Funeral Home from 5-9 p.m. today, and at the church from 10 a.m. to service time Wednesday.
