Clarence "Fred" Lieneke Jr., 74, of Jackson passed away Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Jan. 25, 1939, in St. Louis, to Clarence F. and Mary Volkart Lieneke Sr.

He and Dixie Lee Handley were married May 10, 1958, in St. Louis. They were happily married for 41 years when Dixie passed away June 22, 1999.

Fred joined International Union of Elevator Constructors Local 3 in St. Louis in 1964 and worked 48 years for Otis Elevator Co. in St. Louis. He first was employed as a draftsman, working his way up to construction. During his first year with Otis, he installed the first elevator in the Cape County Courthouse.

Upon moving to Jackson in 1978, Fred's customers simply referred to him as "the Otis man." He repaired and maintained elevators throughout Southeast Missouri, making many friends along the way, and retired in 2003.

Fred was only a few years shy of earning his 50-year Masonic pin, and he thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie and fellowship of the meetings and gatherings. He was a member and past worshipful master of Excelsior Lodge No. 441 in Jackson and Pride of the West Lodge No. 179 in St. Louis. He also was a member of the Cape Shrine Club and Cape Rock Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 60.
