SOUTH ROXANNA, Ill. -- Fred Gilliam, 69, of South Roxanna, formerly of Dorena, Mo., died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 1996.

He was born on March 19, 1927, at Dorena, the son of Fred and Allie Adams Gilliam. In 1947, in New Madrid, Mo., he married Rachel DeBaun.

Gilliam was a retired machinist for Tabor Plastics in St. Louis. He lived in South Roxanna for the past 38 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Fred W. Gilliam of Woodriver; two daughters, Nancy Somers of Granite City and Kathy Balke of Alton; two sisters, Bessie Franks of East Prairie, Mo., and Ada Fergerson of Longdale, Mo.; three stepsisters, Margaret Dotson of California, Helen Buchanan and Ruth Brock, both of De Soto, Mo.; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. Saturday at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. The burial will follow in the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.
