Fred H. Craft passed away Thursday, July 11, 2024, at his home after a valiant battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
He was born Sept. 8, 1955, in Cape Girardeau, son of Junior and Laura Medlock Craft. He and Julia Brunke were married on May 1, 1976, at New Bethel Baptist Church near Pocahontas.
Fred was a 1973 graduate of Jackson High School. He worked with his father logging as a teen and joined the workforce at Procter & Gamble after high school, retiring in 2000. After “retiring” from P&G, he worked at Custom Cut Fabrication doing maintenance work. He was also an independent electrical contractor for many years.
Fred was a faithful member of New Bethel Baptist Church his whole life, serving as treasurer, deacon, trustee, Sunday school teacher and many other roles throughout the years. He loved camping, traveling and tinkering in the garage
Loving survivors include wife, Julia Craft; two children, Rachel (Chris) Schlotzhauer of Scott City and Caleb Craft of Oak Ridge; brother, Dwight (Cathy) Craft of Jackson; sister, Pam Henderson of Marble Hill; granddaughters, Svitlana and Darcy Schlotzhauer; brother-in-law, Steven Barks of White Rock, New Mexico; and many nieces and nephews.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sheila Barks.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 13, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. Funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home.
Interment will follow in New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery near Pocahontas.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
