BLOOMFIELD -- Fred A. Evans, 81, of Mason City, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 21, 1995, at North Iowa Mercy Health Center in Mason City.
He was born May 23, 1914, in Bloomfield, son of William H. and Alice Hawthorne Evans.
He is a graduate of Bloomfield High School. He married Hazel Retherford on March 29, 1935, at Cape Girardeau. She preceded him in death.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He moved to Mason City in 1950. He and his wife ran the Evans Upholstery Shop in Mason City for 12 years. He then worked for New York Fabrics for nine years and was a salesman for the Matthew-Hinsman Co. in Kansas City, for four years before retiring in 1981. He was a former member of The First Baptist Church of Mason City and a current member of the Temple Baptist Church of Mason City.
He is survived by a daughter, Alice Ann Gill of Myrtle Beach, S.C.
He was preceded in death by three brothers.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and on until time of services Saturday at Major-Erickson Funeral Home in Mason City.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. James R. Pratt officiating.
Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
