CAIRO, Ill. -- Graveside service for Frankel A. Carney Jr. of Lake Alfred, Fla., will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Spencer Heights Cemetery in Mounds. The Rev. Bill Gholson will officiate.

Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo after 5 p.m. today.

Carney, 73, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 1994, in Winter Haven Hospital at Winter Haven, Fla.

He was born Sept. 30, 1920, in Cairo, son of Frankel and Bertha Smith Carney.

Carney was a retired agriculture inspector for the state of Florida. He was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church in North Miami, Fla.

Survivors include three daughters, Phyllis Kepner of Cairo, Jerrie Coler of Lake Alfred, Kimberley Powell of Winter Haven; a son, Phillip Carney of Boynton Beach, Fla.; a sister, Ruby Hall of Lake Placid, Fla.; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife and a son.
