Don Reder, 88, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Dec. 21, 2015, at his home of natural causes.
He was born July 7, 1927, baptized and educated at St. Luke Lutheran in Chicago.
After discharge from wartime service in the U.S. Navy in 1948, he served as a teacher, musician, pastor and chaplain for the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in parishes in Maryland, North Carolina, Illinois and Missouri. He enjoyed sharing his toy train hobby with others in the area during retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Sara of 61 years; two sons David (Natalie) of West Chester, Ohio, and Mark of Scott City; two daughters Deborah (Tom) Augustine of Itasca, Illinois, and Sharon (David) Jasper of Washington, Missouri; and eight grandchildren.
His parents, Frank and Katherine; a brother, Martin; and a sister, Muriel; preceeded him in death.
A memorial service and interment will be in Chicago at a future date.
Memorials may be made to the Education Fund of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Jackson (Tilsit), Missouri, or Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary in St. Louis.
