GIDEON -- Francis Louis Werner, 80, of Gideon died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born Aug. 1, 1918, in Clarksville, Ark., son of J.H. and Josephine Mertens Werner. He was later adopted by Louis A. and Theresa Billian Werner. GIDEON -- Francis Louis Werner, 80, of Gideon died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Aug. 1, 1918, in Clarksville, Ark., son of J.H. and Josephine Mertens Werner. He was later adopted by Louis A. and Theresa Billian Werner. He and Ida Borgognoni were married July 8, 1946, at Lake Village, Ark.

Werner was a farmer. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Malden, Knights of Columbus, White House Retreat League, and American Legion.

He served in the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Louis Werner of El Cajon, Calif.; four daughters, Dr. Mary Luckey-Werner of Florence, Ala., Kathleen Klipfel of Gideon, Diana Jones of Lohman, and Anita Toole of Cape Girardeau.

Also surviving are four sisters, Mildred Huhner, Lillian Coor, Mary Lorfing and Josephine Werner, all of Clarksville; two brothers, William Werner of Little Rock, Ark., Bernard Werner of Clarksville; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden after 6 p.m. today. The rosary will be recited at 7.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Ann Church, with the Rev. Glenn Eftink officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park at Malden.
