MOUNDS, Ill. -- Frances G. Travers, 89, of Springfield, Illinois, formerly of Mounds, died Wednesday, July 2, 2014, in Springfield.
She was the daughter of Eldon and Dovie Dyer Grant, and the wife of the late Dr. James J. Travers.
Frances worked in the munitions plant in Cairo, Illinois, during World War II. She was a wonderful wife and mother. After raising her family she worked as a bookkeeper for several retail establishments in the Springfield area. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Springfield. When she lived in Mounds she was active in St. Mary's Church and St. Raphael Grade School.
Survivors include two daughters, Jeanne Travers of Springfield and Joanne (Gary) Mayes of Chatham, Illinois; a son, James J. (Mikalene) Travers of Warner Robbins, Georgia; four grandchildren, Sarah and Greg Mayes, James Travers and Elizabeth Williamson; three great-grandchildren, James and Catherine Travers and Veronica Williamson; a sister, Pam (Bob) Timm of St. Charles, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Grant of Olive Branch, Illinois; a brother-in-law, Charles J. (Sondra) Travers of Birmingham, Michigan; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and a brother, Seldon Grant.
Funeral Mass was Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cairo, with the Rev. Chris Mujule officiating. Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery in Mounds. Crain Funeral Home in Cairo, Illinois, was in charge of arrangements.
