CAIRO, Ill. -- Frances Barkett Elias, 84, of Cairo died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006.
She was born May 6, 1921, daughter of James S. Barkett and Phoebe Lewis Barkett. She and Fred S. Elias were married on June 20, 1948. He preceded her in death on April 15, 1970.
Elias was part-owner of the Elias Family Center Inc. and worked at the business prior to retirement in 1998. She graduated from Cairo High School in 1939 and worked at Lewis Dry Goods. She was a member of the Southern Seven Foundation, Cairo Junior Women's League and the Womens Golf Association of Egyptian County Club. She was a member of the Mighty Rivers Regional Worship Center in Cairo.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Elias Blevins of Brentwood, Tenn.; a son, Fred S. Elias Jr. of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Lorraine Maddox; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Mighty Rivers Regional Worship Center in Cairo with Dr. Larry L. Potts officiating. Interment will be at Beechwood Cemetery in Mounds.
