VIENNA, Ill. -- France L. Alford, 88, of Vienna died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at the Southgate Nursing Home in Metropolis. She was born April 20, 1911, in Reynoldsville, daughter of John Wesley and Ida Mae Lobeck Skelton. She and William Andrew Alford were married Oct. 10, 1927, in Johnson County, Ill. He died Sept. 2, 1981...

VIENNA, Ill. -- France L. Alford, 88, of Vienna died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at the Southgate Nursing Home in Metropolis.

She was born April 20, 1911, in Reynoldsville, daughter of John Wesley and Ida Mae Lobeck Skelton. She and William Andrew Alford were married Oct. 10, 1927, in Johnson County, Ill. He died Sept. 2, 1981.

Alford had previously worked as a clerk at Turley's IGA and Knupp's Variety Store in Vienna. She had been employed at the Good Luck Glove Factory in Metropolis. She was a nurse's aide at the Massac Memorial Hospital and had worked as a cook at the Vienna Grade School.

She was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Vienna and the Johnson County Homemaker's Extension. She was a former member of the Egyptian Chapter 30 of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include two sons, Bill and Ray Alford, both of Vienna; three grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and seven sisters and a great-grandson.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.

Service will be at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Steven Lindsay officiating. Burial will be in Vienna Fraternal Cemetery.
