Frances Kay "Fran" Rediger, 76, of Cape Girardeau was suddenly called home to the Lord on Friday, Feb. 6, 2015.
She was born Feb. 28, 1938, in Utica, Nebraska, to Keith and Ruth Markle. She was married to Harry Rediger on June 8, 1958.
Fran's outgoing personality, captivating smile and amazing spirit touched the lives of many.
She spent her life teaching others, beginning her career as an elementary school teacher and retired from Cape Girardeau public schools, where she was a teaching assistant 12 years.
Fran dedicated her life in service to her church and community. She was a 40-year member of United Methodist Women at Centenary United Methodist Church, a member of the Clipper Sunday school class, Mission Committee, served as Communion steward, and was active in numerous other church organizations.
She served in an advisory role to Southeast Missouri State University's College of Education and as a member of Southeast Missouri University Foundation Board of Directors. She was active with the university's annual Walk for Women's Athletics, Southeast Booster Club and University Foundation's Power of Women luncheon committee.
Fran was a past president of Saint Francis Medical Center Auxiliary and has been a Saint Francis Medical Center volunteer 22 years. She has been active with United Way's Graces and Read to Succeed programs. She was a past president of the Chateau Girardeau Foundation Board, Chateau Girardeau Board of Directors and the Community Counseling Center Governing Board. Other affiliations include member of Rose Hills Garden Club and longtime member of PEO Chapter JN.
Loving survivors include her husband of 56 years, Harry Rediger; four children, Cindy (Randy) Propst, Kathy (Bill) Sedlacek, Dr. Doug Rediger and Michelle (Mark) Burris; seven grandchildren, Amber (Joey) Beard, Katie (Eric) Kuntz, Kelly (Brian) Skubic, Tyler Propst, Trevor Propst, Cameron Burris and Alyssa Burris; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dennis Markle and Dick (Ruth) Markle; and nephews and nieces.
A viewing will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Centenary Church.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. David Conley officiating. Entombment will be in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Ford and Sons Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
