Forrest W. Slinkard, 81, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, June 23, 2014, at Southeast Hospital. He was born Dec. 12, 1932, in Cape Girardeau, to Henry and Pearl Fowler Slinkard. Forrest W. Slinkard, 81, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, June 23, 2014, at Southeast Hospital.

He was born Dec. 12, 1932, in Cape Girardeau, to Henry and Pearl Fowler Slinkard. He and Vonda Lea Hammack were married June 5, 1976, in Cape Girardeau.

Forrest was a veteran of both the Navy and Air Force and served in the Korean War.

He was the business representative for the local painters union. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and VFW Post 3838. He was past state commander of AMVETS.

Survivors include his wife, Vonda Lea Slinkard; two sons, Scott (Patricia) Sander and Franklin John Sander III, all of Cape Girardeau; two grandchildren, Justin Scott (Hannah) Sander of Boone, North Carolina, and Toni Jo Ervin of Cape Girardeau; and four great-grandchildren, Lucy Mae Sander, Forrest Scott Sander, Cynthia Izetta Sander and Liah Jo Ervin.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Kim Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park with full military honors provided by the Missouri Honors Team.
