Floyd Monroe Vavak, 87, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999, at Fountainbleau Lodge.

He was born Feb. 24, 1912, at Grassy, son of Wilson Joseph and Dora Mae Cooper Vavak. He and Emma Ann Williams were married Feb. 18, 1932, at Greenville. She died in May 1979.

Vavak was a chief engineer with Arrow Transportation more than 35 years. He was a member of Red Star Baptist Church, Teamsters Union, St. Mark's Masonic Lodge, Wilson Chapter of White Shrine of Jerusalem, member and past patron of Order of Eastern Star.

He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II.

Survivors include a son, Johnny Vavak of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Shirley Francis of Springfield, Wanda Borum of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Jimmy Vavak of Advance; two sisters, Lucille Bonner of St. Charles, Edna Dunn of Cape Girardeau; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 4-8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel. The Revs. Mark Anderson and S.S. Borum will officiate. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
