GLENALLEN, Mo. -- Florence Mae Mills, 92, of Glen Allen passed away Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Born Nov 16, 1924, in Flat River, Missouri, she was the daughter of Jesse and Augusta Kellerman Barks. She married George Mills on Feb. 9, 1942. He predeceased her on Jan. 27, 2011.
She and her husband established the first five-and-dime store in Lutesville, Missouri.
She was a member of Harmony Methodist Church near Marble Hill, Missouri. Florence was an avid hummingbird watcher. She recorded the first bird in the spring, fed the birds all summer and recorded the date the last bird was sighted in the fall.
She is survived by two daughters, Jeanie (Francis) Lucas of Glenallen and Judith (Fred) Judge of Fairview Heights, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Kathlin (Dennis) Shetley, Victorija Smith, Evelyn (Mark) Martin, Amy (Jim) Whiteside, Fred (Diane) Judge, George (Stephanie) Judge and Julie Hutchison; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Her parents, two brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hutchings Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Harmony Methodist Church in lieu of flowers.
