ADVANCE, Mo. -- Flay Lyman Davis, 83, of Advance died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at his home. He was born Dec. 13, 1917, in Octa, Mo., son of James Martin and Birdie Mae Drew Davis. He and Eglenna Ruth Scott were married June 5, 1949. Davis received a master's degree in vocational agriculture from the University of Missouri at Columbia. ADVANCE, Mo. -- Flay Lyman Davis, 83, of Advance died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at his home.

He was born Dec. 13, 1917, in Octa, Mo., son of James Martin and Birdie Mae Drew Davis. He and Eglenna Ruth Scott were married June 5, 1949.

Davis received a master's degree in vocational agriculture from the University of Missouri at Columbia. He was active statewide in the vocational agriculture program.

He was the agriculture instructor at Advance Schools 22 years, retiring in 1978. He also taught 15 years in Octa, Holcomb and Campbell, Mo. He then served Southeast Missouri in the Electrolux business.

Davis was a member of the United Methodist Church, Rotary, Masonic Lodge, and Eastern Star.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Mr. and Mrs. George Harris (Ann) of Jerusalem, Israel, and children Sarah Caverly and Aaron; Mr. and Mrs. Russell Delay (Sue) of Killen, Ala., and children Eric and Patrick; Mr. and Mrs. Phil (Rita) Garcia of Jefferson City, Mo., and children Alana Faye Kirkpatrick and Sgt. and Mrs. John Kirkpatrick.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church of Advance.

The family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Methodist Church of Advance or the Advance Vocational Agriculture Department.
