Fern Elizabeth Schlimme, 98, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021, at her home.

She was born Sept. 15, 1922, in Jackson to Otto and Mollie McBryde Schweer.

She and Millard Louis Schlimme were married June 20, 1942, in Jackson. He preceded her in death Aug. 30, 2004.

After her children married, Fern worked in the cafeteria at Clippard Elementary School from 1969 to 1987.

She was a member of Christ Evangelical Church in Cape Girardeau, participating in the Mary Martha Circle, Bible study and mission groups. She was also very active in the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 63, and as a result of her Legion service was awarded the Auxiliary "Unit Member of the Year" award for 1998-1999. Fern served many hours at the Missouri Veterans Home and also at the Cape Girardeau Senior Center.

Survivors include a son, Ronald Louis (Sarah) Schlimme of Columbia, Missouri; daughter, Judith D. Bradley of Cape Girardeau; sister, Betty Baxter of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; daughter-in-law, Haroletta Green Schlimme of Whitewater; four grandsons, Alexander Bradley, Abraham Bradley, David Schlimme and Mark Schlimme; two granddaughters, Angie Schlimme Lema and Beth Schlimme Dube; 21 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Larry Wayne Schlimme; brothers, George and Gary Schweer; sisters, Olga Reitzel, Bernice Bogenpohl and Helen Schweer; and two grandsons, Matthew and Andrew Schlimme.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24 at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Debra Tracy officiating. Entombment will be at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Memorial contributions may be given to Christ Evangelical Church or Cape Girardeau Senior Center.
