Fern E. McElroy, 91, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at Life Care Center of Cape Girardeau.
She was born Aug. 27, 1922, in Marionville, Mo., to Fred W. and Lulu V. McClard Scheper.
She and Lloyd O. McElroy Jr. were married Dec. 7, 1945, at Cape Girardeau. He died March 19, 2011.
Fern's hobbies include bird watching; working with flowers in her yard, which won her the Yard of the Month award; oil painting; and collecting rocks.
Survivors include son Larry G. (Regina) McElroy of Cape Girardeau; daughter Brenda F. (Ray) Snider of Marble Hill, Mo.; brother Clayton R. Scheper of Jackson; three grandchildren, Josh McElroy, Dustin Snider and Jay Snider; and six great-grandchildren, Madilyn McElroy, Keegan McElroy, Ally Snider, Ethan Snider, Reagan Snider and Garrett Snider.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. Jim Matthews officiating.
Entombment will be at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau.
