ST. MARY'S Everett Skaggs Layton of St. Mary's, Mo., died July 21, 1993 in Chester, Ill.

He was born Oct. 9, 1922, in Perry County. He was 70.

He was a heavy equipment operator at Lime Kiln. He also was a farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James O. and Lula Skaggs Layton.

Mr. and Mrs. James Wilson helped raise him when he was a child.

He is survived by a son, Gary A. Layton of Perryville; one daughter, Donna Thompson of Wesco, Mo.; one sister, Eula E. Mendel of St. Louis; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

He was a member of the Methodist faith, the Masons, and the Ste. Genevieve VFW. He was a WWII Navy veteran and past treasurer Brown Cemetery.

Funeral services will be held at Young and Sons Chapel in Perryville at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Friends may call from 3-9 p.m. Friday or after 6:30 a.m. Saturday.

Burial will be in Brown Cemetery.
